Panoramic photography, sometimes also called "immersive imaging", produces
a 360° image that, to the viewer, is very close to actually being where
the image was taken.
Panoramic photography has existed for a long time, though it was generally
not seen outside museums or galleries. Until recently, it was largely
a curiosity. It required
special slit-scan cameras using special long strips of film, special darkroom
processes, special print paper, and it was somewhat questionable whether the
results justified the large expense and effort.
Today, panoramic photography is done with a digital camera, a special camera
mount, a computer workstation and integration software. Many individual
pictures are merged into one panoramic image. The resulting image is
printed using a large-format printer as though it were on an unrolled cylinder,
producing a striking image that can be hung flat on a wall.
We invite you to browse our collection of panoramic images, see places both
common and unusual, and view the world in a new way.
